9th Grade Admission

The Liberal Arts College Preparatory Magnet is designed to nurture the intellectual qualities necessary for success in college.

Students are challenged to think critically, to improve their decision-making and problem-solving skills, and to become responsible citizens. The Admissions Committee looks for evidence of motivation and readiness for high school work. Students will qualify for entrance into the program based on the following criteria:

• Completion of the admission application with a copy of the eighth grade report card, signed by the guidance counselor. The report card must show an "82" or better average in each standard eighth grade course. Application should be submitted prior  to testing.

• Recommendations from the school counselor, English teacher, and math teacher indicating positive attitudes, behavior, and attendance. Recommendations will be requested by CHS, not the student.  Discipline and attendance records may be requested and used in determining admission.

• Successful completion of the entrance exams, which include:

  A reading comprehension test

  A mathematics placement test

  An essay
