Community Service Orientation - Orientation for the Combined communities of Southeast Columbus (CCSC) tutorial program will be in room 214 afterschool on Wednesday, May 20, 2014. If you cannot attend please see Coach Foster in Rm 214.

 Community Service Orientation - Red Cross community Service Orientation on Wednesday, May 21 after school in room 201.

Girls Inc. - The summer orientation meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 21st after school in room 307.



Envirothon - there will be an end of the year party/meeting in room 122 on Wednesday, May 21st. There will be free food and cake available to both returning members and those interested in joining. 


JCL - This group has a meeting in P1A after school on Wednesday, May 21st.


Science Club - This group has a meeting in room 124 after school on Wednesday, May 21st.


National Spanish Honor Society - Cords will be available for pickup after school the WEEK of GRADUATION on Tuesday and Wednesday in room 222.


Community Service - Orientation for Feeding the Valley Food Bank will be held on Wednesday, May 21, from 4:30-5:00 at the food bank. The address is 5928 Coca Cola Boulevard | Columbus, Georgia 31909-5531    This is a reminder that orientation is mandatory and that failure to attend will result in a grade deduction. See Mrs. Sayama in room 222 if you have any questions.


Class Assemblies - We will have three assemblies on Thursday 5-22-14to cover curriculum changes and course requests. 

            9th grade students will report to the auditorium with their teachers immediately after attendance is taken first block.

            10th grade students will report to the auditorium the second half of first block.  An announcement will be made when sophomores should report. 

            11th grade students will report to the auditorium with their teachers immediately after attendance is taken second block.   

2014-2015 Student Council Members - Mandatory meeting Friday, MAY 23RD, 2014 in room 206. Come directly to room 206 after homeroom. We will meet until lunch and plan for next year.


Animal Ark Rescue – Summer Volunteer Orientation information is as follows: 

Your MANDATORY orientation will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 1:00 P.M.  Orientation will take approximately one hour and will be held at Animal Ark Rescue, 5133 Sacerdote Lane, Columbus, Georgia.  The phone number is 706-566-5947, and your volunteer coordinator is Holly Gonzalez.  You will receive more pertinent information from your homeroom teacher. If you have questions, please see Ms. Mills in Room 301.  Thanks for your help!  


Students planning to attend CSU after graduation  - This summer CSU will introduce their Rapid Start Summer Freshman Learning Communities.  Classes will complete in 7 weeks instead of the traditional 15!  No Friday classes!  Introductory courses in business, communication, English, math and music will be available.  Students planning to attend CSU after graduation should definitely explore this as an option to the start of your college experience!  Call 706-507-8883 or go to for more information.  Deadline:  May 30.


Girls INC. Scholarship - Girls, Inc. has made a scholarship application available to girls who are currently members OR who are past members of Girls, Inc. in Columbus.  Applications are on file in the Senior Box in the Guidance Office!  Deadline is May 30!


Dance Team - Are you interested in becoming a member of the Columbus High School Dance Team? Tryouts will be held Saturday, May 31st at 9am in the CHS gym. There will be an informational meeting for interested dancers and parents on Tuesday May 27th at 5pm at Columbus High School in Room 209. If you have questions, please see Mrs. Bynam in Rm. 209 or Mrs. Jenkins in Rm. 203.


Excellent Summer Opportunity - South Dakota School of Mines and Technology has an exciting summer camp program for ambitious students entering grades 9-12 interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. There are programs available in the following fields: Geology, Fossils, Mining and Explosive Engineering, electronics and computers, Metallurgy, Chemical and Biological Engineering, and Robotics.

     Each camp is a week-long program on the School of Mines campus. Students will live in the dorms and get in-depth, hands-on experience working with SDSMT professors.  The curricula are fun and engaging, but also challenging enough to provide students with a great pre-college experience.

Summer Jobs - McDonalds at Bradley Park is currently in the process of rebuilding facilities.  The management for that business is currently hiring for the summer and beyond (part time opportunities).  There are scholarships that are available for employees, as well.  Students (especially seniors seeking summer employment) may want to check out this out – especially those planning on attending CSU!


Memorial run to Honor Fallen Solider - What: 4th Annual MSG Jared Van Aalst Memorial 5/10 K Run

            When: Saturday June 14th 2014                        Registration begins at 7 am

            1 mile Race begins at 8 am                                  5/10 K Race begins at 8:30 am

            Where: Broadway & 11 Street, Columbus GA

            Cost: $25 and $20 for students, $30 race day


Scholarships for Seniors - Seniors should check the Senior Box in the Guidance Office for new scholarship opportunities!  The spring is the season for many local organizations to make scholarships available to students our area.  Local competition means better odds for achieving scholarships!

Math Team - The Math Team meets every Thursday in room 133 at 3:30.


Recycling Bins- Only paper and cardboard should be placed in the blue bins -no drink bottles, food items, garbage, clothing, etc.

Student Bible Club - This group meets every Thursday morning at 7:45 in room 104. Come hear a devotion brought by a student. Enjoy fellowship with other students. Also there are doughnuts.

Old Yearbooks - You may purchase yearbooks from the last four years at a price of $40.  If you are interested, see Coach Perry in room 310.  Make checks payable to "Columbus High School."


Chess Club – The CHS Chess Club meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 in the Media Center and Media Center Classroom.  All students are welcome.


FCA - The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be held every Friday in the gym at 8:00 - breakfast will be served.
