The Columbus High School Wrestling team certainly showed they deserved a state-of-the-art training facility last weekend at Northside. At the Traditional Area Tournament, the Blue Devils won first place in four different weight classes. Those four were sophomore Sean Mulvany in the 106-pound class, junior Austin Bell in the 113-pound class, junior (and class president) Robert Mulvany in the 145-pound class, and senior Bryce Owens in the 182-pound class.
They were not the only notable places at the competition, however. Charlie Douglass, Ryan Bithorn, and Marcellous Bankston all got 2nd-place, in the 120, 152, and 170 pound classes, respectively. Bronze beasts included Brian Moore in the 126-pound class and Jae Kim in the 132-pound class. Two other notables were Haston Holder getting fourth in the 195-pound class and Edwin Hernandez getting fifth in the 160-pound class.
This weekend, the boys will compete again at the Class 4A Section B tournament at Woodward High School in College Park, near Atlanta. The top four in each class will be there as well as alternates. So if you see any of these boys in the hall, tell them both good job and good luck!
